Case Studies

Clinical Operations Advising

Need: A rapidly growing digital health brand saw a growth in memberships of up to 2-5x after new funding and marketing initiatives were implemented. Due to this, the clinical team needed to be expanded very quickly and standard processes needed implemented since the team would be growing beyond the initial group.

Approach: The Clinical Operations Advisor helped to develop a comprehensive hiring and onboarding process that could be managed by 1-2 team members to handle high-volume of incoming applications while still having a thorough interview process. This included launching an asynchronous interview platform, having standardized process for candidates and templated emails to keep candidates warm and engaged. All clinical and administrative protocols were then standardized and formal training documentation was created, including the use of macros during charting, lab and prescription ordersets which both cut down on errors as well as administrative time. These new documents wer used in a standardized cohort-based onboarding process run by Clinical Operations in order to effectively bring on new providers while minimizing burden on the current team. Utilization and capacity planning was also implemented to ensure the correct states/licenses were being hired and available for booking and to prevent over-hiring.

Results: The result was a business that was able to maintain its growth without having to slow down acquisition because the clinical team was able to be expanded 5x in 90 days while maintaining clinical and administrative quality through the use of standardized training and documentation which did not exist prior. This also allowed for expansion into new states while reducing unused physician time as well as errors and delays that occured prior to standardization.

Market and Product Evaluation + Distribution vs Direct Sales Project

Need: Our client, an international diagnostics company, has a multi-year distribution/licensing partnerships with leading distribution partners. The client company was not satisfied in sales results generated by a large partner. Sought advice as to the causes of results as well as insight into next steps.

Approach: Sprout member with qualifications and specific sector experience matching the company was engaged. Given Advisors senior experience and connectivity into senior stakeholders, had superior knowledge of who to contact and access to do so. Advisor conducted interviews of customers, key opinion leaders and partner’s management and sales teams. Interviews assessed product configuration, pricing, competitive positioning and partner’s sales incentives and sales process. Advisor completed a concise review of product composition, competitive analysis, partner execution, and pricing. Advisor identified multiple action points to improve upon sales and partnership.

Results: The results of the engagement was a roadmap that identified issues in execution, substantive product configuration modifications and recommendation on negotiation end-points with future distribution partners. Client had a far more informed negotiation position using the roadmap provided by Sprout member that aided ongoing distribution models.

A SaaS technology company with novel algorithm seeking go to market advice.

Need: A novel algorithm for deconvoluting the composition and relative mix of important life science molecules had been developed. The client company sought advice as to the technology’s suitability in multiple markets, inclusive of initial constructs for go to market strategies.

Approach: Sprout Healthcare advisor supported development of multiple KOL panels who were given broad information on algorithm’s capabilities and questioned on product suitability in multiple fields. As an example, Sprout advisor used relationships within state and federal government to seek feedback on perceived competitive products, contemplated product’s suitability and likely pricing.

Results: The results of the engagement identified market suitability in one sector, and found no suitability in others. In the one application, while the product was desired by potential customers the pricing sensitivity indicated too low of a ROI to justify a new business arm for the software technology company. Sprout member advised that the algorithm was likely best licensed to an existing market player. The engagement helped the client to avoid loss of capital and management resources.
